Scripture Passage

Genesis 49:8-12

Reflection

Jesus comes from the line of Judah. Jesus is the Lion of Judah, the one who will defeat all evil and rule over all the nations. Generations before Jesus, God was working his plan of salvation and redemption through Judah. While Judah did not get to see the fulfillment of God's promise, we are different. We know Jesus has come and defeated death by his victory on the cross, but we, like Judah, are now waiting for Christ's return to defeat our enemies and bring the kingdom of God fully realized back to earth. Is it difficult for you to wait on the Lord to fulfill His promises? What are the specific longings you have for Christ to come and restore the brokenness and injustices of our world? What hope can you have as you wait for Christ's return?

The Prayer for the Week

Almighty and everlasting God, whose will it is to restore all things in your well-beloved Son, the King of kings and Lord of lords: Mercifully grant that the peoples of the earth, divided and enslaved by sin, may be freed and brought together under his most gracious rule; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
